Classic luxury at a five-star golf and spa resort in Wales with fine dining - includes breakfast, three-course dinner and use of extensive leisure facilities

At the Celtic Manor may be a synonymous with golf, but this five-star resort has a lot more to offer. If it's fine dining you're after, then you'll be in food heaven - the restaurants here are sensational and some award-winning. As a guest at Celtic Manor, you'll have access to the health club, so you can sweat it out at the gym, wallow in the indoor pool (complete with domed night sky-effect ceiling) or indulge in a massage.

If you fit firmly into the golf-lover category, then you're in for a treat, especially considering that one of their championship courses was the venue for the 2010 Ryder Cup. There's also a golf academy and two luxurious clubhouses. If you want a bit more of the great outdoors, then you could explore the surrounding parkland or take the hour's drive to go walking in the glorious Brecon Beacons.

Highlights

The Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales is set in 2,000 acres of parkland in the lush Usk Valley. With its two hotels, country inn and two golf country clubs, it can sometimes seem like a little world in itself, but if you do want to explore the local area too, there's plenty to see and do.

The nearby Wye Valley and Newport Wetlands Reserve are great places to spot British wildlife and provide lovely spots for a picnic. If you feel like more of a bracing walk, the Brecon Beacons is just an hour's drive away. For history buffs, the Roman ruins in Caerleon and Tintern Abbey of Wordsworth fame are both nearby and worth a visit.
