Saint Jean Cap Ferrat
An intimate 19th-century hotel located in Nice's old quarter, near the seafront and Promenade des Anglais - breakfast, a welcome drink and late check-out included
Built over 150 years ago, Hotel Beau Rivage was one of the first on Nice’s famous seafront Promenade des Anglais. Visited by an illustrious roll call of writers and artists in the past, including Matisse, F Scott Fitzgerald and Chekov, today it retains a certain air of creativity. Outwardly maintaining its 19th-century facade, step inside and you’ll find a contrasting world of sleek modern design – huge pebble-cushion seating in Les Galets (the winter lounge) and linen, beige and stone hues elsewhere.
The pebble theme extends throughout, from specially commissioned tables in the lobby to the striking floors in the guest bathrooms, testament perhaps to the fact that you are just a stone’s throw from the sea. Opposite the hotel, you’ll find the largest private beach on the Riviera (entry chargeable), alongside a wooden decked bar and breakfast room. By night, you can retreat to the comfort of the bar with its refined selection of tipples.
Take in the colours and heady fragrance of the famous Nice Flower Market, which is only a five-minute walk away. For some culture, you could visit the Nice Opera.
