A relaxing break on Puglia’s Adriatic Coast in a converted palazzo just steps from the beach – includes breakfast and more for longer stays

Designed by Milanese architect Emilio Corti in the 1800s, Villa Raffaella spent its first life as the residence of a Baroness – something which explains its wonderfully grand architecture and beautiful period features. Nowadays, the guest house welcomes guests looking for an authentic experience in the heel of Italy, in the sun-beaten region of Puglia. Just two minutes’ walk from the beach in the centre of the village, it’s a great spot for getting away from it all.

Enjoy scenic seascapes from the balcony and beautiful interiors reminiscent of the golden age. There are bikes to borrow for pedaling along the coast and inland on the quiet lanes that snake through the olive groves. When you’ve worked up a sweat, reward yourself with a homemade lunch of juicy, ripe tomatoes, creamy burrata cheese and delicious ham (you can pick it all up at the market) and refresh with a cooling dip in the sea.

The south of Puglia is a joy to explore, with fewer crowds than the trulli-dotted central region and wide open spaces to wander. Spend a day exploring Otranto and its resplendent cathedral, castle and old quarter, where remnants of Greek, Roman and Turkish rule remain. Jostle for space on the beach with Italian holidaymakers and enjoy the lively bars and restaurants before heading back to the calm of Cesarea Terme.

Good to know

Please note that a city tax of €1.50 per person, per night is payable at the hotel upon check-out.
